NavBar Types

When you log in to Desire2Learn you will see a navigation bar at the top of the page.  See Figure 1 below.  There are three different types of Navigation Bars in D2L.  The D2L NavBars include the following:

  • General Navbar
  • Course Navbar
  • Editing Navbar
    • General Navbar

    The general navigation bar is located on the topmost area of the page. It contains links to My home, MavMail, MavDisk, MSU, FAQ and Help.  The general NavBar is visible to both students and instructors at all times.  See Figure 1 for an example of the General NavBar.

    Course Navbar

    The Course navigation bar consists of links to course related tools such as Course Home, Content, Discussions, Classlist, Dropbox, Quizzes, Grades, Chat, Glossary, Survey, Edit Course, and Logout.  The Course NavBar is displayed once you have enter your course.  See Figure 2 for an example of the course navigation bar.  Both instructors and students have access to the course navbar.  However, students do not have access to the Course Management Console, therefore the Edit Course link will not be displayed for students.   The functions and properties of all D2L tools are detailed in the Build Course section of these tutorials. See the section "Build Course" in the navbar to the left.

    Editing Navbar

    The editing navigation bar consists of links to course related items like Info, Tools, Navbars, Homepages, Files, Content, Components, Participants and Go To Course as shown in Figure 3 below. The editing NavBar is used to create and edit your course, and is only available to instructors.
