My Preferences

My Preferences are a group of tools that allow you to change your font, password, preferences etc. Customizing your personal settings is a great way to ensure that you are comfortable in your new teaching environment.


Note: These tools are available outside your courses. This means that changes made here will be reflected in all of your courses.  However, the changes to My Preferences will affect your view of the Desire2Learn system and do not affect the students enrolled in your course.


In order to set up your preferences:
  1. Make sure you are at the Desire2Learn Homepage.  In the Welcome Box on the My Home screen,  click the My Preference link.  Refer to Figure 1.
  2. The My Preferences screen appears with a series of tabs as shown in Figure 2. Click on the tabs to access different settings.

General

  1. In the Welcome Box, on the My Home page, click the My Preferences link. Refer to Figure 1.
  2. The Font setting is accessible under the General tab, which is shown by default (refer to setting preferences).
  3. Use the drop-down menu under Font Setting to change the font face and font size. The Preview box will show you how the selected font will look.
  4. Click the Save button.

Note: The font affects only Desire2Learn fonts and does not affect the font face or size of the navigation bars or documents in the content area.  Note also that these settings only affect your view of the Desire2Learn system.

Paging

  1. In the Welcome Box on the My Home page, click the My Preferences link. Refer to Figure 1.
  2. The paging settings are located under the Paging tab, as shown in the Figure 3.
  3. Use the Paging option to give a value of how many students are shown on one page..
  4. After selecting a value, click the save button.

Discussion Room Settings

  1. In the Welcome Box on the My Home page,  click the My Preferences link. Refer to Figure 1.
  2. Discussion settings are accessible under the Discussion tab as shown in Figure 4.
  3. Choose the various discussion room settings based on your preference.  Each setting is described below.
    1. Discussion Topic Frame: The Discussion Topic Frame is appears in the left hand column of the discussion area.  It contains a list of the discussion forums and topics in the current course, allowing for easier navigation.  Choose whether you want to show or hide the Discussion Topics Frame.
    2. Search bar: The search bar allows you to search the forum posts for keywords.  Choose whether you want to show or hide the Search Bar.  If you choose to display the Search Bar it will be displayed above the list of forums and topics.
    3. Search bar type: Choose Normal to display the search bar with simple search options.  Choose advanced to display the search bar with advanced search options.  Advanced allows you to search discussion posts by subject, keyword, date, and user name of the person who posted the message.
    4. Topic List type: Choose Single Forum to lists only the the topics of the current discussion.  Choose Forums Expanded to display all forums and their topics.
  4. Use the drop-down menu to choose your Default view type.  Using the Threaded option, all replies to a discussion post will be displayed at various levels under the original message.  Using this option you will be able to see the flow of the conversation.  Choose the Not threaded option to display all postings at the same level.
  5. Click the Save button.

Email

  1. In the Welcome Box on the My Home page, click the My Preferences link. Refer to Figure 1.
  2. The email settings are located under the Email tab, as shown in the Figure 5.
  3. You can create your own custom email signature that will be attatched to all emails you send out through Desire2Learn.
  4. By selecting "Send a copy of each outgoing message to...", upon completion and sending of an email, it will send you a copy of your message for your records as Desire2Learn will not send it to your "Sent" folder in Mavmail.
  5. When all changes have been made, click the save button.

Pager

  1. In the Welcome Box on the My Home page, click the My Preferences link. Refer to Figure 1.
  2. The pager settings are located under the Pager tab, as shown in the Figure 6.
  3. Use the Pager Notifier option to turn pager sounds on or off.
  4. Choose the desired pager sound from the provided list.  The Pager Sound will only be played if the Pager Notifier option is set to On.
  5. Click the save button.

Note:  If the pager notifier is turned on, the pager image in the upper right hand corner will flash and beep when the user receives a page.

Picture Library

  1. In the Welcome Box on the My Home page, click the My Preferences link. Refer to Figure 1.
  2. The Picture Library settings are located under the Picture Library tab, as shown in the Figure 7.
  3. Click the radio button beneath picture to choose what picture will be displayed on your homepage.
  4. You may select the randomize button to get a different picture every time you come to the homepage.
  5. Click the save button.
