Content
The Manage Content tool allows you to create, edit and organize modules and
topics within your course content area. This is an excellent place to add topics and
modules, modify the order of your topics and modules within the content area, and
view the files that are presently used in your course.
There are a couple ways to access the Manage
Content tool in D2L.
--> Click the edit icon beside your course name on your
course homepage.
OR
-->Click the Edit Course link on
the navigation bar of your course homepage.
After following one of the above, click the Content link located on the navigation bar.

Create a Module
Creating a module is the first step in creating course content. Modules
are a container for content topics. You can think of modules like chapters
or lessons. Note: You must create a module before you can
create topics.
- Click on the Add Module
icon beside your course name.
- Type the module title under the Title field. For the sake of simplicity, leave all other options as
they are.
- Click the Save icon to save your module and return to the main Manage Content screen.
Create New File (Using the online editor)
- Click the Add Topic
icon beside the module where you want to add a topic.
- Choose the Create New File option. A new
window will appear containing an HTML editor.
- Type the name of the topic in the Title field.
- Type content as you wish in the large text field.
- Click Save.
- A popup window alerts you that you need to save your file. Create a new folder by clicking on the
New Folder icon. At the prompt, type a name for your new folder and click OK.
- Click on the new folder you just created to enter the folder. Change the filename if you wish, and click Save.
This will store your file in the Manage Files area and will return you to the main Manage Content
screen.
Upload an existing file from the course
- Click the Add Topic
icon beside the module where you want to add a topic.
- Choose the Course File option.
- Select the Parent Module where you want to add a
topic.
- Type the name of the topic on the Title textbox.
- Click the Browse button to view the existing files
in the Files area of your course.
- Choose the file you want to make into a piece of content.
- Click the Save button.
Upload New File
- Click the Add Topic
icon beside the module where you want to add a topic.
- Choose the Upload New File option.
- Select the Parent Module where you want to add a
topic.
- Type name of the topic in the Title field.
- Click the Browse icon. Choose a file from your computer and click the Save button.
- A popup window alerts you that you need to save your file. Select the
folder where you want to store the file and click the Save button.
Your file will be stored in the Manage Files area.
You will notice that you have an additional topic underneath your module. A file icon will
appear next to your new topic to remind you of the type of file.
Linking (any page on the internet)
- Click the Add Topic
icon beside the module where you want to add a topic.
- Choose the Link option.
- Type the name of the topic in the Title field.
- Type the website address in the URL field.
- Click Save to return to the main Manage Content page.
An icon appears beside your new topic indicating that the topic is a link.
D2L Quicklink Topic
- Click the Add Topic
icon beside the module where you want to add a topic.
- Choose the Link option.
- Type the name of the topic in the Title field.
- Click the Quick Link
icon.
- Choose a Category from the dropdown. For example
choose "Discussions".
- Choose an Item from the dropdown menu. The
Item dropdown menu will contain all items from the
Category chosen in the previous step. For example if you chose
"Discussions"
in the previous step, the Items dropdown will contain all forums in the
Discussion area of your course.
- Click Insert
- Click Save to return to the main Manage Content page.
An icon appears beside your new topic indicating that the topic is a link.
Hide Enumeration
- Click the Edit icon
beside the topic you want
to change.
- Click on the Properties tab.
- Check the box beside Hide Enumeration.
- Click Save.
- Click on the Content button on the navigation bar. The enumeration
will no longer appear for the topic you changed.
Time Released Content
- Click on the Edit icon
beside one of your
topics.
- Click the Release Conditions tab.
- Choose an Available Starting date.
- Choose an Available Ending date.
- Click Save.
- Click Close.
